December 10th, 2013 – The initiators around Gisela Schiffmann and a group of students and parents from the Theodor Heuss School in Pinneberg had all worked hard to make the first Advent-Bazaar for Karibuni at the 10th of December 2013 a success.

After a welcome by the headmaster Matthias Beimel and the foundress of Karibuni e.V. Gisela Schiffmann guests of every age enjoyed a multifaceted mix of bazaar and show.

While the younger visitors could have their faces painted as African animals, their parents had enough time to look for Christmas presents at the numerous stands with products such as African jewellery, kitchen accessories, towels, tissues and clothes. Furthermore the younger students had done handicrafts like for instance Christmas cards, key rings and paper stars which were by far not only bought by their parents. Additionally, self-made marmalade and Christmas cookies were available.

The various shows in assembly hall offered an alternation to the turbulence at the bazaar: The spectators were impressed by the performances of music, dance and gymnastics groups from the school as well as by the presentations of some classes.

The well-being concerning food was also guaranteed: In Christmassy decorated cafeteria cake, coffee and cookies were sold as well as fresh waffles.

Visitors who were interested in the activities of Karibuni e.V. always had the possibility to talk to Gisela Schiffmann herself or to watch a Dia show from her orphanage in Tanzania.

The result of the first African Advent-Bazaar at the THS is quite impressive: We were able to collect donations totalling 2802€ that will solely be used for the project in Karatu. At this point everyone agreed that the event was a great success and that it will not be the only one of this type.
